From Mental Health Blogger To Academic Researcher

When I started Sanity Daily, I simply wanted to heal through words and make my readers feel less lonely. What began as a mental health blog gradually became a space for women especially single mothers to find hope, comfort, and validation. As the community grew, I started to notice a recurring theme in their stories: emotional burnout tied closely to financial instability and lack of opportunity. No words could sooth the pain and calm the chaos in mind. That observation eventually evolved into my current research at the University of Strathclyde, where I am researching the socio-economic development of single mothers in marginalised communities through entrepreneurship as a pathway to empowerment.

How did a personal mission turned academic progression?

Writing is my first form of therapy. Each post I write for Sanity Daily is a reflection of my lived experiences and emotional truths. But as I began to connect with women from diverse backgrounds, I realised something deeper, women in distress are not looking for charity or sympathy; they want opportunities, skills, and confidence to rebuild their lives. I have always believed that we all posses something ordinary in ourselves, we just need to identify that. Having worked hard to establish Sanity Daily as a credible mental health blog, I knew when you choose to show up consistency for your purpose it rewards you in ways you could not even imagine. I wanted to explore how entrepreneurship could become that bridge between emotional wellbeing and economic empowerment for women.

That’s when my personal mission turned academic. I decided to study how entrepreneurship can be a transformative tool for single mothers, helping them gain not only financial stability but also self-worth and social inclusion. That confidence of showing up for self. Through research, I now examine how access to digital skills, resources, and community support can open doors for women who’ve often been excluded from mainstream economic systems. Living this reality as both a single mother and a researcher gave me a deeper understanding of the emotional and socio-economic struggles that shape women’s empowerment journeys.

Bridging passion and purpose

The shift from blogger to researcher didn’t change my mission; it amplified it. As a mental health and wellness blogger, I worked with my core values and realised the need of actually getting in field and providing solution. As a researcher, I now combine that empathy with evidence, both worlds feed each other beautifully.

Building Sanity Daily piece by piece taught me that storytelling can drive awareness and pass on information. Research is teaching me that structured inquiry can drive change. My goal is to combine both, to translate academic insights into practical, accessible tools that can help women develop entrepreneurial skills, build digital literacy, and sustain mental wellbeing while managing single motherhood and financial independence.

Why this research matters?

For single mothers, empowerment often starts with survival finding stability in an uncertain world. But entrepreneurship offers more than income; it offers agency. It allows women to use their creativity, resilience, and lived experiences to shape their futures.

Through my research, I aim to explore how entrepreneurship can help single mothers in marginalised communities achieve socio-economic independence, while improving their mental health and sense of belonging. This dual lens — emotional wellbeing and economic agency is essential to creating lasting empowerment. Also, it has a ripple effect as if a mother is emotionally healthy and feels confident in her self she passes on a positive nurturing to the child which can help both to create a healthy bond of love and respect towards each other.

Empowerment cannot be measured by income alone. It’s about confidence, connection, and control over one’s narrative. And that’s where my work hopes to make a difference by showing how entrepreneurship can transform not just livelihoods, but lives.

Walking the TALK

Balancing motherhood, research, and relocation from India to the UK has been a test of endurance. But it’s also been a mirror showing me the strength and determination that so many women carry silently.

This journey from blogger to researcher has reaffirmed that healing and knowledge are intertwined. The blog remains my space for reflection and empathy. The research is my backbone the framework that can influence policy and create opportunity. Together, they form a purpose-driven path towards empowering single mothers to lead with confidence and create meaningful change through entrepreneurship.

A question for my readers – What could empowerment look like if women were supported to build their own pathways through creativity and courage?
